Fabrizio Cristiano De André (Italian pronunciation: [faˈbrittsjo de anˈdre]; 1940–1999) was an Italian singer-songwriter. De André recorded fourteen studio albums, plus some songs released only as singles and then reissued in anthologies. Many lyrics to his songs tell stories of marginalized people such as rebels, anarchists and prostitutes, and are considered by some critics to be as high-ranking as real poems, to the point that they have been included in various literature anthology schoolbooks since the early seventies. He has sold 65 million records in his career, earning for himself a place amongst the most successful Italian artists.
